Cheryl Stafford | My mom

She has been there for me since day 1. My mom influenced me to work hard, spread kindness and most importantly take time for myself. She has always ensured that I am doing what I want, and not doing it for anyone else. When I was younger, I had a passion to go to Broadway, and she always encouraged that if I worked hard I could accomplish anything. When my goals changed, she supported me through that too. She never shut me down or made me feel as if I was not capable of something I wanted. She always made me feel special and assisted me in achieving my goals by being a constant support system.

To this day, I can still call her anytime I'm feeling down, and she always knows what to say. She supports my decisions in my career and personal life, and provides advice when necessary. Her influence is carried with me today, because I illustrate this same support with my significant other, friends, and colleagues. I support them in their personal choices and endeavors and am always willing to offer assistance because I want to demonstrate the same support I was given from my mother.

"Always make sure to take time for yourself. You deserve it."

Brahm Youssefi | My dad

He has been a constant support my whole life. My dad pushes me to be my best self and always has advice based on what he's learned from his experiences. He nurtured me through my upbringing and took pressure off my shoulders. As an only child my father felt protective of me and sheltered me from many hardships. He always acted from the bottom of his heart and had the best intentions for me. He was not always great at showing his emotions and communicating with me when I was young, but as I have grown up we have become so close. He knows what to say to cheer me up or push me forward if I'm feeling discouraged.

School has always been so important to him and he wanted me to have the best education. He incorporated academics into many aspects of my life and encouraged me to practice to improve. I've carried that with me to the present. When I make a mistake, I've learned that I can fix the mistake through practice and that nothing is permanent. He continues to influence me every day in ways I don't always notice at first. I am like him in so many ways.

"You're a diamond. If someone doesn't love you for what you're worth, they're not worth your time."

    1. Their push most likely encouraged us to love the field of education! I try to take her advice every day, and not get overwhelmed with all the work expected of me. It's so important. Thank you, Trish!
