Research Around the World
I chose to review current international research topics from
Early Childhood Development Virtual University (ECDVU) Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA)
(n.d.) website. They have a large list of major projects and theses from places
such as Ghana, Zambia, Malawi, and Uganda. One of the research projects focused
on the topic of assessing quality child care services in a selected orphanage
in Zambia (Akinware, 2004). The pilot study attempted to assess the quality of
the services provided for the orphans and identify their needs in order to meet
them. They put regulations in place that ensure that the orphanage meets the minimum
standard requirement of care (Akinware, 2004).
There was another research project located in Nigeria,
regarding the incorporation of fathers in early childhood care and development
(Hua, 2004). Hua mentioned that it was a purposive sample, which means that
they sampled with a “purpose related to the kind of participant” they were
looking for (Trochim, Donnelly & Arora, 2016, p. 87). The project focused
on fathers’ attitudes toward involvement, and determined if their role was
actually implemented.
From exploring the website, I learned that the Early
Childhood Development Virtual University (ECDVU) focuses on early childhood
development in Africa, and provides strategies, materials, methods, and
resources for people trying to advance in the field. I also found information
regarding the mission of the ECDVU, and how they aim to distribute “learning methods including interactive web-based course work
as well as face-to-face seminars” (Early Childhood Development Virtual
University (ECDVU) Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), n.d.). Their work has helped over
170 graduates to advance in their professional careers and serve children
around the country.

ReplyDeleteI also chose to look at this website and at the research being conducted in Sub-Saharan Africa. It was fascinating to see research at work; often at the ground level. Nice work on finding a research topic and tying it into this week's learning objectives. I also liked their mission and the fact that they help educate early childhood professionals through both local and distance-learning (online) so that they can apply what they have learned through their research.

It is always great to hear that early childhood education supports exist all over the world. It sounds like Early Childhood Development Virtual University (ECDVU) Sub-Saharan Africa is making great strides in the field around their country. I love that they are focused on the children and providing for them in any way, not only education but rather development and well-being.
