Hopes For The Future
My most passionate hope for my future, as an early childhood
professional would be to encourage children and families to obtain anti-bias
perspectives. I hope to influence children to be open and kind to all people,
regardless of their differences. I want them to understand that diversity is a
part of life, and that we are unique because of diversity. We should not hold
biases towards other people based on these differences, and if we realize we
have stereotypes towards others, then we can attempt to eliminate them. While
it may not be a reality for all children in the world, I can do my part to
encourage children and families to work together and live amongst each other
without judgment or bias.
Thank you to all of my colleagues for challenging me to
think deeper, supporting my opinions whether you agree or disagree, and for
enlightening me on different perspectives. I have enjoyed learning from all of
you over the past eight weeks and wish you all luck in your professions! J
Tara it was indeed a pleasure working with you as we shared our experiences with each other regardless of our varying agreements and disagreements we still made it to the end of an eight weeks journey. I wish you all the best in your future endeavours and educational journey as an anti-bias educator.

ReplyDeleteI think that is a great hope for the future! I think the topic of anti-bias education is becoming more popular in the education field and children's understanding of diversity and equity is becoming greater. As you said, if we do our part we can help children grow up in a world where they are able to successfully work with others.
I have enjoyed working with you over the last eight weeks and I wish you luck as we finish our last course of this program!

ReplyDeleteWe share similar hopes. I also want to see anti-bias education spread throughout our field so all can begin to understand to importance of realizing and embracing our diversity as a strength rather than a division.
I hope we are in our Capstone together so we can continue our journey and so we can continue to learn more from one another!

Tara, I couldn't agree more! We can preach anti-bias all day but until we include families in every aspect of the classroom, including embracing anti-bias, we won't make any progress. If we are teaching the children about embracing all individuals but their parents aren't on board with the message, inclusion practices will be lost on them. We are helping to raise future leaders and we must work with parents to ensure children have absolutely everything they need!
